Twin Cities Tango Collective presents the 2nd annual Minnesota Tango Music Festival: a celebration of the thriving local tango music scene in Minneapolis and St Paul. Presented in collaboration with Bataclan Tango and Sabine Ibes.

This rare concert experience features over 40 musicians performing large-form tango music by legendary composers Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, and Astor Piazolla — along with the work of contemporary composers in Buenos Aires today. Headlining is the 13-piece Orquesta Tipica Kingfield featuring Argentine singer Marco Tabacman, alongside the traditional tango of Northwoods Tango Ensemble, the local Community Tango Ensemble, Havana Quartet, Caro Bernardini, Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet, and more. Come experience the music of Argentina right here in Minneapolis! This Showcase Concert is the best festival event for all audiences, from tango lovers to new listeners.

Orquesta Tipica Kingfield is: Marco Tabacman (vocals); Devan Moran, Hansel Perez Carrero, Ana Frómeta, and Suzanne Damberg (violin); Chi-Chi Bestmann and Amaya Fuentes Sarria (viola); Denise Hernandez Rabiero and Meghan McGuire (cello); Charles Gorczynski and Bob Barnes (bandoneon); Alex Woods (piano); and Sarah Lahasky (contrabass).

Twin Cities Tango Collective is a Minneapolis-based project dedicated to cultivating the tango music community in our cities. The collective hosts three ensembles: Community Tango Ensemble open to all, the audition-based Northwoods Tango Ensemble, and the professional Orquesta Tipica Kingfield. The environment is casual and productive, serving as a central space to share resources and connect with others. Twin Cities Tango Collective is one of the only locally-focused and self-sustaining community tango projects in North America, creating a bridge from Buenos Aires to the Twin Cities.

Minneapolis-based composer and bandoneonist Charles Gorczynski works in contemporary tango, new music, and studio production. He leads the acclaimed modern tango project Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet, and is the director of the Twin Cities Tango Collective. Charles is a deeply established musician and community organizer with a distinct voice in creative new music. Charles has toured extensively and produced five albums of original contemporary tango music, has premiered compositions with Chamber Music Northwest Festival and SF International Arts Festival, worked as bandoneon guest faculty for Tango Sin Fin and Tangier Workshop programs, and is regularly commissioned for new works for tango chamber ensemble. As bandoneonist he has worked with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, Bear Valley Music Festival, California Symphony, Chicago Chorale, Vocal Essence, Mason Bates’ Mercury Soul Orchestra, and many other orchestral and chamber music organizations. Charles has recorded and toured with international tango projects, including Mariano Barreiro Tango Trio, Tango BC Quartet, Alejandro Ziegler Cuarteto, Maxi Larrea Trio, Maldito Tango, and Los Tangueros Del Oeste.
