A Monthly Series — Silent and Classic Films Scored Live Every First Sunday by Al Church and Friends

Whether he backing on guitar, drums, or keyboards for local stalwarts such as Gaelynn Lea or Actual Wolf, or fronting his own popular 80’s infused solo act — Al Church has become a Swiss Army Knife of the local music scene. And now he’s bringing his talents to The Parkway for the new monthly series, Al Church’s Cinematic Orchestra Presents. Al’s signature sound will be accompanied by special guests, and your favorite visual gems, projected on the big screen. This month Al & friends present the 1920 German Expressionist classic, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

In The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a demented doctor and a carnival sleepwalker perpetrate a series of ghastly murders in a small community. Director Robert Wiene and a visionary team of designers crafted a nightmare realm in which light, shadow and substance are abstracted, creating a plunge into the mind of insanity that severs all ties with the rational world.

The Nunnery is a solo act of Minneapolis-based artist, Sarah Elstran.

The Nunnery begins with one voice, layered upon itself becoming a lush soundscape. Creating melding meditative, lush soundscapes with layered vocal loops and catchy hooks. More of an experience than just a sound, The Nunnery's somewhat-improvised performances are informed by the spaces in which they occur, and her live shows often incorporate other forms of art such as live visual projections.
