Perennial bluegrass favorites The Barley Jacks (winners of The Parkway's inaugural Bluegrass Battle of the Bands!) celebrate the release of their long-awaited third album, Coming Down the Mountain, a delightful mix of thoughtful, original vocals and jaw–dropping instrumentals. Opening the night is up & coming Minneapolis folk-jazz-bossa nova-pop band, Honeybutter.

"The Barley Jacks had the crowd standing, clapping, dancing and shouting for almost the entire final hour. They are one finely tuned machine And absolute treat!" — Greg Schmitz, Sioux River Folk Festival
"I LOVED the band... The Barley Jacks are dynamic, exciting and just plain fun!” — Mary Doub, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival
Masters of the fiddle, guitar, bass and drum — The Barley Jacks meld their divergent backgrounds of blues and bluegrass, classical and Celtic, R & B and bebop — and inspire each other to create something entirely new. Their first two albums, Either Side of Night and The Lighthouse, received great praise and audiences and critics alike eagerly await the release of their third album, Coming Down the Mountain.
Virtuosity, magic, and a little danger combine to make every performance by The Barley Jacks unique. Audiences are struck with how much fun the band has when they perform. These Minnesota–based veterans of years in the musical trenches enjoy making music together so much that they sometimes giggle like little kids!
The Barley Jacks are:
Brian Wicklund – fiddle, mandolin, vocals
Mike Cramer – guitar, vocals
Joel Arpin – drums, percussion, banjo
Kevin Rowe – bass, vocals
Based in Minneapolis, Honeybutter is the perfect match of sweetness and salt. These three pieces of toast—Zak Khan on guitar/production, Clara Wicklund on vocals/bass, and Andreas Fenner on vocals/keys—are multigrain babes: Acoustically-rooted, leavened by jazz and baked to a perfect Honeybutter golden brown.
With the velvety romance of old cinema, they mix Brazilian guitar, honeyed vocals, and homemade percussion to make music that’s earth-bound and timeless. Their songs are dreamy and familiar: set in Minnesota’s harsh landscape, where the trio’s songwriting takes place, they’re warmth and sugar on a cold winter day. Eat them for breakfast.
