Join celebrated Twin Cities' musical performers Gary Rue and Leslie Ball as they host an evening commemorating the 30th anniversary of the film "Beyond Bob." Featuring performances of the duo's popular tracks from their Rue Nouveau catalog, along with other musical surprises.

Following the performance, settle back and enjoy a 2K restoration of "Beyond Bob" (100 minutes), a romantic-comedy-ghost story showcasing the talents of Leslie Ball, Patrick Coyle, Michael Paul Levin, and Peter Moore. The film has been lovingly restored from its original 16mm negative.

Gary Rue has written a wide variety of music for local, regional, national and international artists of theater, film, television, radio, internet and recording. Early on he traveled the southern Minnesota bar scene with a string of pop groups (Wire, Nip 'n Tuck, Rue Nouveau). But his true path revealed itself in 1981 when he was commissioned to write the musical score for John Olive's "A Careless Love," the first of 85 (and counting) musical scores for the theatre. In 1986 Gary was offered the position of music director/arranger for one of his pop heroes, Gene Pitney ("The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," "Town Without Pity"), a post he held until Mr. Pitney's untimely demise in 2006. Gary most recently held the position of adjunct professor of composition at McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul. He continues to reside in Saint Paul, where he remains active as a composer, producer and performer.

Leslie Ball grew up in Duluth, performing in a variety of settings before relocating to Minneapolis, where she met Gary Rue. They toured as a duo, then fronted a U.S.O. band entertaining troops stationed in Panama and the Caribbean. Their band, Rue Nouveau, toured North America, and Leslie starred in stage productions of their concertplay Painting It Red in St. Paul, at Berkeley Rep in California, and at Pittsburgh’s City Theater. She moved to NYC to earn an MFA at NYU before returning to MN in 1991 to be in John Gaspard’s film, Beyond Bob. That summer Leslie also launched BALLS Cabaret as a greenhouse for artists at any level of experience. BALLS was cited as a “must-see” in The New York Times — and at 29 years, was the longest-running weekly midnight cabaret in human history. Leslie’s record “Loring Park” won the MN Music Award for Best Female Songwriter. Leslie later earned her Master of Divinity degree at United Theological Seminary. She lives in North Minneapolis working as a pastor, educator, and artist.
