Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of Big Star's #1 Record, an album that inspired musicians by the millions! The iconic debut release from the legendary Memphis band will be performed in its entirety from start to finish, along with other Big Star hits and hidden gems.

Led by Alex Chilton and Chris Bell, Big Star's 1972 debut release launched a career that was brilliant, history-changing and, at the time, a commercial disaster. Big Star is the poster child of artistically successful bands whose commercial impact was close to zero. Saddled with a struggling record label and a string of bad luck, Big Star was a critic’s darling but saw very low sales.

Nonetheless, the band has been an inspiration to generations of musicians thanks to their power-pop hooks, breathtaking harmonies, and vulnerable-yet-cynical lyrics.

With this Minneapolis concert, the music comes home in a sense—Twin Cities bands have literally sung the praises of the band (“Big Star” by The Jayhawks and “Big Star Big” by Slim Dunlap) and its members (“Alex Chilton” by The Replacements).

A stellar roster of Minnesota musicians will come together for this rare tribute performance, creating a fresh take on Big Star's iconic sound while staying true to the elements that made their sound so timeless.

Appearing will be Annie Enneking (Annie & the Bang Bang), Tommy Bentz, Joe Fahey, Michael Ferrier (Fathom Lane), Ben Glaros, Brian Just, Mike & Kiki Lane, Cindy Lawson, Nick Leet (High on Stress) Stephanie Paquin (American Housewife), Chris Perricelli (Little Man), Scott Wooldridge, Billy Dankert (Gear Daddies), Aaron Seymour and others to be announced!

About Big Star
Founded in 1971 in Memphis by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens and Andy Hummel, Big Star's unique sound took the gritty soul of Memphis rhythm and blues and fused it with the artful melodies and vocal harmonies of British power pop, injecting it all with a flailing, pre-punk, garage-band energy. The band's musical style drew on the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Byrds. Big Star produced a style that foreshadowed the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s. Before they broke up in 1975, Big Star had created a "seminal body of work that never stopped inspiring succeeding generation" (Rolling Stone), as the "quintessential American power pop band" and "one of the most mythic and influential cult acts in all of rock & roll" (Allmusic.com). Three of Big Star's studio albums are included in Rolling Stone's list of the Top 500 Albums of All-Time.
