The legendary Memphis rock band gets a second Minneapolis tribute at The Parkway, following 2022’s anniversary show celebrating its debut album.

This year’s show will again feature more than a dozen local musical acts playing songs from all three Big Star albums and selected solo releases.

Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens, and Andy Hummel created one of the most timeless sounds in rock music, and fans such as the Replacements have agreed: they never travel far — without a little Big Star.

Featuring local favorites Cindy Lawson, Chris Perricelli (Little Man), Dan Israel, Mike & Kiki Lane, Steve Brantseg (The Suburbs), Annie Enneking (Annie and the Bang Bang), Carrie Deans (Heartless), Ben Glaros, Michael Ferrier (Fathom Lane), Brian Just, Joe Fahey, Tommy Bentz, Stephanie Paquin, Maureen Rudd, Theyself, Aaron Seymour, Billy Dankert, Bart Bakker, Scott Allen, Scott Wooldridge, and more!

About Big Star
Founded in 1971 in Memphis by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens and Andy Hummel, Big Star's unique sound took the gritty soul of Memphis rhythm and blues and fused it with the artful melodies and vocal harmonies of British power pop, injecting it all with a flailing, pre-punk, garage-band energy. The band's musical style drew on the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Byrds. Big Star produced a style that foreshadowed the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s. Before they broke up in 1975, Big Star had created a "seminal body of work that never stopped inspiring succeeding generation" (Rolling Stone), as the "quintessential American power pop band" and "one of the most mythic and influential cult acts in all of rock & roll" (Allmusic.com). Three of Big Star's studio albums are included in Rolling Stone's list of the Top 500 Albums of All-Time.
