Boiled in Lead, the longest running Celtic punk band in America, continue their mid-2020s return with their 42nd Anniversary concert at The Parkway. The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band will escort BiL on the stage and fellow roots music archivists Corpse Reviver will open the show.

This special performance represents a living tradition: everyone here strives to put their own stamp on the music while maintaining respect for the original material. Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day at The Parkway with this popular annual event!

Boiled In Lead is the longest-running Celtic punk band in America, and an important part of the foundation of what ultimately became Minnesota punk rock. Founded in 1983, the band continues to challenge itself with a wealth of new material, as well as looking backward to reframe old tunes.

Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü was among those who praised the band’s first self-released LP (“Even the Fiddles Rock”) and the Hüskers invited the band to play an early show at Goofy’s Upper Deck. Today, the band’s star is still on the exterior wall at First Avenue.

Enthusiastic, powerful, technically brilliant, and playing a wealth of instruments with extreme dynamics, Boiled In Lead routinely demolishes genres with its highly-identifiable sound.

The new lineup of Boiled In Lead — Todd Menton (guitar), Drew Miller (bass), Mo Engel (drums), and Haley Olson (violin/vocals) — released a live record last year, and the band is currently in the studio with a digital single expected shortly.

“…the prime purveyor of a style of Celtic music infused with punk-rock attitude, developing over the years with a hard-driving swirl that combined Irish folk with heavy rock and elements of styles from all over the world. …one of the best bands Minnesota’s ever produced. …even without amplification, Boiled In Lead can summon up furious punk-folk energy.”  — The Onion

Corpse Reviver is a Twin Cities-based trio that pays homage to Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music. First compiled and released in 1952 on Folkways Records, the Anthology runs the gamut of musical styles, and includes early blues and jug bands, old-time country, cowboy songs, Cajun tunes, fiddle breakdowns, and a wide range of sacred music. The band take their name from a mid-19th-century "hair of the dog" cocktail from New Orleans. Corpse Reviver is: Adam Kiesling (banjo, guitar, all things picked & strummed, vocals), Mikkel Beckmen (washboard, stomp, assorted kitchen gadgets), & Jillian Rae (fiddle, vocals).

The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band was established in 1962 to preserve and advance Celtic piping, drumming, and dancing. They are one of the oldest existing pipe bands in the Upper Midwest. Members of the band have performed with national acts, including The Chieftains, Green Day, Blink-182, and Rod Stewart, as well as alongside local acts. A fixture in parades, celebrations, and dances, the band adds a sense of tradition and spirit of pageantry to every program in which they participate.
