Mama Digdown's Brass Band will once again strut onto the Parkway Theater stage and throw down some powerful and rollicking second-line brass band funk – this time in celebration of their new album, Brass Jackson! Joining them will be Cuban music sensations Yazmin and Beat Zero performing a riveting fusion of Cuban jazz, funk, and folk rock. Emcee & comedian Trish Cook kicks off this not-to-be-missed night!
For over 30 years, Mama Digdown’s Brass Band has been bringing the joyful, rowdy spirit of New Orleans brass to audiences around the world. This Madison, Wisconsin-based powerhouse blends funky horns, jazz, deep grooves, and second-line energy into a sound that’s impossible to sit still for. Rooted in New Orleans brass band tradition, Mama Digdown’s delivers the kind of high-energy performance that turns a concert into a celebration.
In the summer of 2026, Mama Digdown’s released Brass Jackson: The Music of the King of Pop, a bold reimagining of Michael Jackson’s music through the lens of a New Orleans brass band. This special performance will be the Minneapolis album release party for the new album — a bold and inventive reimagining of ten of the King of Pop's biggest hits. With grit, soul and swagger, ten of MJ's iconic hits get turned into undeniable brass band jams.
Yazmin and Beat Zero (YBZ) is a vibrant blend of Cuban-influenced rhythms, soulful bilingual songwriting, and Folk, Rock, Jazz, and Funk. Led by singer-songwriter and pianist Yazmin, the music draws on her decades of studying and performing Cuban music, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted and distinctly original.
In August 2026, YBZ released their new album, The Truth Is..., a 12-song collection showcasing the band’s genre-crossing sound and adventurous spirit. The album weaves together English and Spanish, Cuban rhythms, lush strings, funk, and Yazmin’s distinctive songwriting. It features a collaboration with Cuban singer Yusa, as well as a soulful interpretation of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”
Since bringing the current band together in 2023, YBZ has completed four tours and developed a powerful live sound featuring multi-instrumentalist and percussionist Andrew “Dizzy” Gillespie and Grammy-nominated bassist Álvaro Benavides. The trio is often joined by the Havana String Quartet. Together, they create an energetic and uplifting experience that crosses genres and languages, carrying messages of curiosity, compassion, hope, and joy.
Trish Cook is a Red Laker with deep roots in South Minneapolis. She has been entertaining audiences for years with her humor and expressive storytelling. In addition to her individual performances, Trish was a third of the nationally recognized Ojibwe Comedy Trio, NDN Way Comedy, and is currently focused on kwe comedy with Ace BAE Comedy and Big Auntie Energy Comedy.
Trish finds humor in the daily experiences of family, friends, dating, and work while drawing on her Native roots and culture. She has a talent for making the mundane hilarious and the painful palatable. A fast-paced comedian with sharp wit and self-effacing relatability, Trish charms audiences with stories that are funny, familiar, and uniquely her own.
