At the screening, grab a delicious sandwich created by innovative pop-up foodmaker Martha Polack of Marty’s Deli! Inspired by classic New York delis and sunshine-y Italian cafes, Marty’s Deli sandwiches are made on fresh-baked focaccia and stacked with locally sourced ingredients from purveyors including Wild Acre Farm, Peterson Meats, and Red Table Meat, and accompanied by house-made mayos, pickles, and spreads. Pre-ordering is strongly encouraged and will close at 5 pm on Mon, Jan 31.
Emily Ford's epic Ice Age Trail hike is now told in a documentary film!
Follow their journey as Emily sets out with Diggins, a borrowed Alaskan Husky sled dog, to become the first woman and person of color to thru-hike the 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail in winter. As the 69-day journey through subzero temperatures tests her physical and mental endurance, Emily and her canine protector develop an unbreakable bond as they embrace the unexpected kindness of strangers and discover they’ve become figureheads in the movement to make the outdoors more accessible for everyone. What begins as an extraordinary physical and mental challenge also becomes a spiritual adventure.
Directed by Jesse Roesler (2021, USA, 30 minutes)
The Great Northern celebrates our cold, creative winters through ten days of diverse programming that invigorate mind and body. In an era of changing climate that threatens our signature season, we seek to create community, inspire action, and share the resilient spirit of the North with the world.
