Under Violet celebrates Threes, released in January 2021 and named one of “Minnesota’s Best Albums of the Year So Far” by the Star Tribune.
The evening includes a performance by Dusty Heart and visual projections by artist Scott Lunny.
Mellow melody maker Sara Bischoff stripped away some of the ethereal indie-rock layers of past projects and delivered an earthier, rawer yet still soothing and lush sophomore UV album with producer Holly Hansen of Zoo Animal. Amid the folky, viola-laced charmer "Waltz," the Big Thief-like "Earthship" and fuzzy rocker "Daisy," Bischoff sings with calm melancholy like a lonesome winner making a Champagne toast to herself. - Star Tribune
The songs are a tranquil blend of Bischoff’s delicate vocals and lush instrumentation that is part Laurel Canyon 70s songwriter and part Mazzy Star hazy folk. The songs have a classic beauty to them, but there is also a weariness that resonates in these troubled times. It’s a great album for late nights in uncertain times. - Reviler
The latest Under Violet release, Threes, came out back in January, a beautiful collection of songs that captures what the band does so well. From the easygoing sway of ‘California Moon’ to the propulsive folk-rock of ‘Daisy’, the record is as varied as it is cohesive, enveloped in a honeyed glow and tempered with a sense of wistful loss. Closing track ‘Perfect Sun’ serves as an encapsulation of this atmosphere—one of Threes‘ most stripped-back moments, simple strummed guitar builds over Zack Warpinski’s ethereal pedal steel as Bischoff delivers her vocals soft and sober, joined by Emily Mohrbacher in the aching chorus. - Various Small Flames
Under Violet is led by Sara Bischoff (Web of Sunsets/Heavy Deeds), joined by Chris Bierden, Mike Gunvalson, and Jeremy Ylvisaker. Inspired by a mix of Mazzy Star and vintage country, the music is dreamy and spacious, creating a folk-rock glow for projecting minimal and dark portraits.
Rich vocal harmonies merge with intimate layers of guitar, fiddle and banjo to define the lush sound of Dusty Heart. Barbara Jean and Molly Dean are two songwriters recognized in their own right for their poetic lyrics and distinct vocal styles that when combined create a powerful and haunting sound that takes on a life of its own. Through their shared wanderlust and love of adventure, a passion for the open road, vast landscapes & poetry, as well a mutual love for musical harmony, Dusty Heart has crafted a sound that bridges together the diverse musical worlds of roots, indie, pop and folk.
