A father (Hoyt Axton) returns from Chinatown with an unusual pet, a Mogwai – a gift for his son Billy (Zach Galligan). The rules are simple: Keep your Mogwai away from water, never expose him to bright lights and, most importantly, never – ever – feed him after midnight. Billy follows the three rules and nothing else of significance happens.
