From the panels of Instagram comic Ted Cruz From Memory, Hamby comes to life in a new sitcom pilot! Animated by Matt Latterell using only $20,000 in Apple products, it's basically as good as a real show from TV (in some cases, better).
Along with the cartoon's premiere, Latterell will host an evening of songs and laughs with his most impressive friends, including Andrew Ranallo, Holly Hansen, Tyler Tholl, Jill Zimmerman, and Starby. This special event is sponsored by Rat Island Brewing, one of Woolrod Valley's top ten craft breweries.
Matt Latterell (Hamby Director/Animator/Craft Services): Matt Latterell is a songwriter turned cartoonist from NE Minneapolis. In 2018, he started drawing Ted Cruz on Post-It Notes. No one expected it to become a whole thing. Now a cautionary tale, Latterell enjoys long, solitary walks.
In 2020, dehydrated from weeping, Latterell taught himself the minimum legal requirements to call something “animation.” He worked at his new craft day and night, with a twisted discipline that confines him even now — still feverishly drawing to a disconcerting backdrop of reggae music.
When Latterell isn’t driving, he enjoys RAT ISLAND BREWING, voted a top ten brewery in Woolrod Valley for three consecutive years. Then a gap. Then two more consecutive years.
Andrew Ranallo (Hamby Co-Writer/Co-Producer): In 1993, Andrew Ranallo chipped his front teeth on an ice hockey rink. The following year, while sledding, he met an ice boulder face-first, again breaking the teeth. An ambitious bike stunt would claim the teeth in 1995 before losing them once more while trying to tie a water balloon in the summer of '96.
It was poet Jack Gilbert who said, "Icarus was not failing as he fell, but just coming to the end of his triumph." Andrew lost the remainder of his front teeth on a stale Swedish Fish in 2015. His dental implants, installed later that year, hold strong to this very day. :-)
Ranallo is such a regular at RAT ISLAND BREWING he even has a shirt that says it on it.
