A sneak peek screening of the forthcoming documentary film, "Don't Turn Your Back on Friday Night," chronicling 30 years of legendary troubadour Ike Reilly's life, songs and stories.
After the movie, stick around for a Q&A with Ike Reilly and the film’s director, Mike Schmiedeier —along with an acoustic set performed by Ike and his sons Shane, Kevin and Mickey!
A portion of the proceeds for the evening will be donated to the family of the late Trevor Engelbrektson of Minneapolis, Reilly's friend and former tour manager, who died in a tragic car accident in March 2019 in Arizona.
Don’t Turn Your Back On Friday Night explores the life and career of the Chicago-based songwriter Ike Reilly.
The film compiles over 30 years of footage covering Reilly’s life, songs and stories. It’s an impressionistic and refreshing examination of the former gravedigger and hotel doorman’s music, faith, family, booze and financial calamity. Schmiedeler is pleased to bring the film to Minneapolis because the Twin Cities has been an important stomping ground for Reilly and the film contains prominent scenes from First Avenue and other Minnesota locations.
“The Twin Cities audience is cherished by Ike and we’d love to get the community’s reaction as we put the finishing touches on the film,’’ Schmiedler says.
The film features interviews with Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), actor David Pasquesi (Veep, Book Of Boba Fett) musicians David Lowery and Johnny Hickman (Cracker) as well Minneapolis music scene mainstays Steve McClellan, Andrea Swensson, Pat Dwyer, Conrad Sverkerson and Jim Walsh.
