Doomtree Records and The Parkway Theater present the next live quarterly recording of the popular Tuesdays with Lazerbeak podcast, featuring interviews with musicians and mental health experts, along with unique and intimate performances.
Recorded live for later radio broadcast, Tuesdays with Lazerbeak showcases an in-depth conversation with and performance by a high-profile musical artist. Doomtree's Lazerbeak and co-host Jeyca Maldonado take audiences on a deep dive into all things related to mindfulness, talking with a different mental health "expert" each episode, and interacting with the crowd with fun group activities designed to shed light on how we can all better our minds. This event is family friendly and open to all ages.
Joining Beak and Jeyca is MC, musician, producer and visual artist Greg Grease, as well as Megan and Cristin of the Domestic Abuse Project, who will talk about their work in the Twin Cities community.
An integral member of the funk collective Astralblak (formerly named ZuluZuluu), Greg Grease stepped out on his own in 2018 to release his brilliant solo record, Down So Long. City Pages honored the release as the year's Best Album and 89.3. The Current's Andrea Swensson called the album "an entrancing, shape-shifting and alluring tapestry of sound." Down So Long is a heady blend of smooth-out soul, funky jams, and smoky R&B, with guest contributions from Psymun, Jayanthi Kyle, Mike Mictlan, DJ Just Nine, and Javier Santiago, as well as Astralblak's Proper-T, Trelly Mo, and Art Parté. Throughout, Greg's astute, socially conscious raps offer a penetrating study of the burdens and blessings of urban life, whether he's questioning the drive for material wealth, blasting unchecked police brutality, or celebrating the strength and inspiration that can be drawn from family and friends (City Pages, 2018).
Aaron Mader, known professionally as Lazerbeak, is a Minneapolis-based artist and producer. Aside from being a founding member of the Doomtree collective, he is also the CEO and General Manager of Doomtree Records, handling the day-to-day operations, management, and inner workings of the crew and label. Over the past decade he has worked with a wide range of artists including Lizzo, Trampled By Turtles, Dessa, Matt and Kim, GAYNGS, P.O.S, and the Minnesota Orchestra. In addition to original production and songwriting, Beak also works musically behind the scenes on commercials, movie trailers, films, TV shows, and remixes. Tuesdays With Lazerbeak is his monthly podcast with co-host and producer Jeyca Maldonado, focusing on creativity, process, inspiration, and mindfulness.
