The legend returns to The Parkway!
Jimmy Webb is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, composer, and singer known worldwide as a master of his trade. Dubbed a modern-day Gershwin/Porter/Berlin, he is a bona fide progenitor of the Great American Songbook. His timeless hits continue to be performed and recorded by the industry's biggest names, and his new compositions span the musical spectrum from classical and jazz, to country and gospel, to rock and pop.
His intimate live performances incorporate storytelling and his exquisite piano skills. Along with a concert of some of music’s biggest hits, this not-to-be-missed evening is filled with songwriting, storytelling, and pop culture at its best.
“A night with Jimmy at the keys is not unlike getting to hear George Gershwin or Cole Porter live. It’s hard to believe one guy could have written all these amazing songs. If you get a chance to see him live, grab it. “ — Songwriters on Songwriting
"Few singers blend grit and grandeur like Jimmy Webb…[his] voice is like an old Mustang heading through a treacherous yet often gorgeous landscape." — Rolling Stone
Jimmy Webb, America’s Songwriter, has written songs that transcend generations and genres — think “Wichita Lineman,” “MacArthur Park,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” and “Didn’t We.” This Motown-trained composer writes all of his own lyrics and music and is the only hitmaker to have scored songs on the Pop, Country, R&B, Rap, Disco, and New Age charts. During this Evening with Jimmy Webb, audiences will hear this multi-Grammy Award winner’s songs and experience his insightful and often humorous stories about his work with Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, Linda Ronstadt (“Still Within the Sound of My Voice”), Art Garfunkel (“All I Know”), The Fifth Dimension (“Up, Up and Away”), The Highwaymen (“The Highwayman”), Kanye West (“Famous” features Webb’s “Do What You Gotta Do”), and more.
Jimmy Webb is the author of the memoir, The Cake and the Rain, and the “bible” of songwriting, Tunesmith: The Art of Songwriting. In 2019 Webb released a piano-only CD, SlipCover, featuring some of his favorite songs from his contemporaries; Billy Joel, Paul Simon, The Rolling Stones, and more.
Pete Mancini got his start as the frontman and songwriter of Butchers Blind, a critically acclaimed rock band from NYC. His debut solo album Foothill Freeway (2017), explored the Americana influences that were a hallmark of his former band and garnered rave reviews from NPR, No Depression and Newsday. His second album Flying First Class (2019) was followed by extensive tours of the East Coast, Midwest and South, establishing Mancini as a national artist. His third album, Killing The Old Ways (2022), was produced by Matt Patton (Drive By Truckers) and Bronson Tew. The critically acclaimed 10-song collection marked a significant artistic leap forwardvand was included on several best of year lists. His new EP The Commonwealth Sessions Vol. 1 is out now.
Over the years, Mancini has opened for acts such as Jimmy Webb, Los Lobos, Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Cracker, Rhett Miller, Amy Helm, Larry Campbell & Theresa Williams, and Iain Matthews. Pete is also a member of The Famous Doctor Scanlon Band, which performs the music of Travis McKeveny
