A musical tribute to the most haunting melodies of the 80s and 90s!
Witness Minneapolis music legend Mark Mallman as he channels the spirit of an era that continues to captivate our hearts and wardrobes. Along with special guests, his unparalleled artistry and magnetic presence will transport you back in time, encapsulating the raw emotion and subversive spirit of music's darkest era.
DJ Jake Rudh of Transmission opens the night, and Horror Burlesque icon REDRUM will debut her interpretation of “Angela’s Dance,” the notorious goth scene from Night Of The Demon’s featuring Bauhaus’ “Stigmata Martyr.”
Local legend Mark Mallman’s stage persona precedes him, but stepping back one sees a stunning body of recorded work. As a composer for television, his songs have been featured on Rick and Morty, The Morning Show, Jersey Shore, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Lucifer, and many others. As a national performer and recording artist, his expansive catalog of infinitely emotional and masterfully orchestrated songs has been blasted over airwaves worldwide from MTV to NPR. USA Today, Wired, NME have all sung his praises. As a writer of memoir, musician Mark Mallman is fresh off the heels of a widely-adored memoir on happy music as medicine against grief and anxiety. Currently his music history Tik Tok has amassed 85 thousand followers and growing. True to form, his albums nod to fellow Minneapolitans who have amassed international reach. Prince, The Hold Steady, Lizzo, and Hüsker Dü are all enthusiastically represented in the DNA of Mallman’s work.
Kicking off this special night of 80s & 90s music is DJ Jake Rudh, both a Minneapolis club and radio DJ hosting "Transmission" the program heard on 89.3 The Current every Thursday night at 10 pm. Jake's worked in music for over 30 years including Capitol Records, NPR and Twin Cities alternative favorites REV 105 and Radio K. Having been voted "best club DJ" in the Twin Cities for ten straight years by the readers of City Pages magazine, he brings the varied mix of the club nights to the airwaves each week with a different theme to his show.
