A fantastic triple bill of Minnesota music!

Celebrated singer/songwriter Mary Bue & her band perform a sneak peek of her forthcoming new full-length album, along with sets by Midwest Country Music Award Winners (2021 Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year) Maygen & The Birdwatcher (performing as a trio) and Duluth-based folk project Superior Siren.

Mary Bue is a folk/pop songwriter, Nada yogi, traveler, runner, vegan, retreat guide and teacher based out of Minneapolis. Her music touches upon archetypal themes of the human condition: love, loss, triumph, dreams, and the natural world. A longtime student of yoga and psychology, Mary weaves sacred subject matter into her songs, seeking deeper levels of consciousness, and deep concern for the environment mixed into her sometimes crass, real-world hue.

She released The Majesty of Beasts in May 2017 which landed on 2017’s Best of Minnesota Music lists for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and #3 in City Pages. Mary’s long-time support of PAVSA (Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault) as well as the release of this EP was also recognized, honoring Mary with 2017 Community Ally of the Year. Her latest album The World is Your Lover was her first full-length album in three years and was a synthesis of her seven-plus releases, merging pianos and guitars, spiritual longing, and real-world sorrow. Mixing folk, pop and Americana sounds, the album features an all-star cast of players that included Alan Sparhawk (Low), Adam Levy (The Honeydogs, Turn Turn Turn), Shannon Frid-Rubin (Cloud Cult), Molly Maher and Jeremy Ylvisaker. The album garnered international attention and led her to be named the Twin Cities' Best Songwriter of 2020.

“I don’t let myself be lifted by just anyone, but I can trust Mary. She means it.” — Alan Sparhawk (LOW)

“…veers between fiery ‘90s fuzz-rock, bittersweet melodic pop and intimate, Stevie Nicks-ish gypsy musing.” — Minneapolis Star Tribune

“…true representation of what our current world is going through and at the same time, how love is always a timeless message.” — Music in Minnesota

Coming off the successful release of their "stunning" (Americana UK) debut full-length album, Moonshine, which earned them Midwest Country Music Awards for both Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year, Maygen & The Birdwatcher are poised for big things in 2022. Described as "an exciting goulash of Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Florence + The Machine and Joe Cocker" (MostlyMinnesota), the band showcases original songs, fantastic harmonies, and tight musicianship that keep you anticipating what they'll deliver next. They adventurously blur the sounds of country, bluegrass, folk and blues, creating a sound both familiar and all their own. The band also just released their version of Eagles song "Desperado" which landed them on popular Spotify playlists: Indie Bluegrass and Bluegrass Covers, broadening their reach.

"In many ways, Maygen & The Birdwatcher feel like a collaboration between two distinct artists versus a more seamless band-- but it's that individuality, those visible seams, that make them such a fascinating act." - Adventures In Americana

S U P E R I O R S I R E N is an eerie folk project from Duluth, Minnesota. The music is inspired by Lake Superior and Siren mythology, and combines alluring vocals with haunting melodies. Superior Siren is led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Laura Sellner. Sellner debuted the project in 2014 with the ethereal solo EP “Lotus in the Muck”. In 2016 she joined forces with cellist Rachel Gobin, bassist Nyssa Krause, and drummer Emma Deaner to craft a mesmerizing blend of strings and percussion. The all-female band released a full-length self-titled LP in 2018, followed by a tour of the Midwestern United States. In 2021 Superior Siren released another solo EP of original material titled “Kill Your Darlings”. The collection spotlights Sellner’s captivating voice and poignant songwriting. Superior Siren continues to perform as a solo or full-band act throughout the region, and is in preparation for the next full-length album.
