Minnesota music-maker Al Church and Friends aka Permanent Record are back with a 30th anniversary celebration of the Smashing Pumpkins' third studio album (and first double album), Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (released 10/23/1995), considered one of the greatest albums of the 1990s and of all time. The ambitious and beautiful album will be performed in its entirety, track-by-track, along with other hits by the iconic alternative rock band.
The 28-track, triple LP album features a wide array of musical styles, including art rock, grunge, alternative pop, and heavy metal. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Lauded by critics for its ambition and scope, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness earned the band seven Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year ("1979"), as well as nine MTV Music Video Awards nominations, eight of which were for "Tonight, Tonight," including Video of the Year. The singles became hits on mainstream and modern rock stations, and songs like "Bullet with Butterfly Wings," "1979,” "Tonight, Tonight," and "Thirty-Three" became the band's first Top 40 hits, cementing the band’s rock and pop crossover success.
