Presented by nonprofits doing critical work in our public lands, director Brendan Hall will lead a talkback and Q&A. After a sweeping film festival run and screenings with organizations across the country, he is thrilled to bring this inspiring film to Minneapolis.
In the documentary, a young filmmaker and his childhood friend set off on a 10,000-mile road trip through U.S. national parks, leaving home with little more than a camera and a desire to understand what connects people to these wild places. What begins as a summer road trip becomes a transformative journey, capturing untold stories of those who protect, visit, and find healing in the parks. Through intimate interviews, breathtaking cinematography, and a profound original music score, Out There uncovers a deeply human portrait of the parks — revealing them as places of reflection, resilience, and connection across generations and cultures. A stunning tribute and grassroots love letter, Out There reimagines what it means to find belonging in the natural world, and the power of public lands to bring us back to ourselves.
Brendan Hall (MN '23) is an award-winning documentary filmmaker sharing stories across land, space, and beneath the sea. He is a director, cinematographer, editor, and speaker. In 2025, he was named to The Explorers Club's EC50, recognizing 50 individuals shaping the future of exploration. His work explores awe, empathy, and humanity's relationship with the natural world.
