Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family when ghosts commune with them through the television set. Initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn menacing. When five-year-old daughter Carol Ann (Heather O’Rourke) goes missing, parents Steve (Craig T. Nelson) and Diane (JoBeth Williams) turn to a parapsychologist for help. Viewers also receive a helpful tip for using lightning and thunder to determine the distance of approaching storms.
