After her controversial world premier as an official selection of the 2024 Atlanta Film Festival, Poor Clare returns to the city from which she was born, Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a one-night-only big screen event. Witness the story of a girl, haunted by man. A girl whose relationship with and dependence on the images she consumes and creates borders on perverse, a man whose vile action emits a harrowing reverberation, forwards and backward in time.
This special screening will be preceded by a set of live music by Downstairs, the artist whose music constitutes the film's exposed, still-beating heart.
Directed by Blaine Redden and starring Myra Billund-Phibbs, Angelina Gonzalez, and Niels Korsholm Billund.
Synopsis:
Just before dawn, a strange man appears at Clare's door. The young filmmaker begins to see this man wherever she goes. She struggles to connect to those around her, to tell them what haunts her, until she meets a mysterious stranger who is intent on showing Clare what she's most afraid to see. Drawing from the rich and shadowy legacy of underground, cult, and trash film, Poor Clare is a vivid and dreamlike vision etched in camcorder tape.
Downstairs is a muslin sheet laid over something soft, wounded and breathing. Downstairs is a sound that you remember, but not entirely or exactly. Downstairs is a cold tile for your hot, red cheek. Downstairs isn’t far away (although it can feel that way at times), it’s actually quite close. Downstairs is the name of Sophia Wright’s musical recording and performance project.
