The Parkway is pleased to present Minneapolis singer-songwriter Sam Cassidy as he celebrates the release of his new EP, "One More Favor." This special evening includes opening sets by Meg Kirsch and Geoffrey Lamar Wilson.
Roots rock songwriter Sam Cassidy is known for his spirited live shows that showcase his stirring vocals and deft guitar work. Named "Best Acoustic Performer" by City Pages in 2017 following the release of his brilliant album Debts (2014), Cassidy composes hard-luck ballads with a distinct Midwestern twang. His second LP, Running Blind (May 2019), was a concept album, telling the tale of a robbery gone bad. Told from multiple characters points of view, the songs focus both on one moment in time, and also take a wider lens to examine forces behind what makes a person come to such drastic actions, and how these decisions affect those around them– whether they realize it or not.
With the release of One More Favor, Cassidy highlights the acoustic heart that beats within his Americana-drenched numbers. Filled with gems that showcase his ear for melody and uncanny ability to capture raw emotions, this is yet another fantastic new release from this very talented singer-songwriter (and proud cabinet maker).
After nearly a decade of composing lyrics to Kenny G cassette tapes, Meg Kirsch finally picked up a guitar and googled how to play. She's been stitching words to her very own melodies ever since. She still really loves Kenny G.
There's a great deal of honesty in Meg's song, which is entirely palpable when she plays. Regardless of venue, the room immediately softens when she starts singing.
Released in February 2019, her debut EP Street Cat is a product of process. Meg's folk songwriting sensitivities come alive supported by indie rock instrumentation, fortified by synth and drum machines.

Born and raised in Minnesota, musician and composer Geoffrey Lamar Wilson left home at 18 for New York City, bound for college and adventure. After finishing a music degree in jazz saxophone and composition, he gave up the instrument and, at 24, decided to learn some basic guitar and become a singer songwriter while also pursuing a masters in music psychotherapy. He moved to Brooklyn and from there led the band Jus Post Bellum with his now wife Hannah. A band which some described as “indie folk” or “historical fiction," the band toured the east coast, south, and midwest over the course of five years while recording several records.
In recent years since returning to Minneapolis in 2016, his songwriter work has shifted from dusty Post Bellum narratives to contemporary issues spanning the American Civil Rights era to current incidents of racial violence and police brutality. He draws inspiration from the simple musicality, cutting wit and lyricism of Bob Dylan, the stark narratives and brutal honesty of James Baldwin, and a childhood steeped in soul, funk, and R&B. Wilson has composed and recorded themes for several MPR/APM radio podcasts including 74 Seconds (Investigating the Philando Castile Shooting), Flyover (with Kerri Miller), and in 2019 he toured a handful of U.S cities with the live performance of the hit podcast Terrible, Thanks for Asking, with Nora McInerny, for which he wrote the theme music. Most recently he’s dusted of his saxophones and is working on new multi layered solo saxophone project tentatively titled Geo Mar Ilso.
