Three bands, three new albums, one amazing night of Minnesota music.
Rich Mattson and the Northstars celebrate their new album, “Out There”
Hailing from Sparta, way up in the great northwoods of Minnesota, Rich Mattson and Germaine Gemberling have been writing, recording, and performing together since 2010. The latest incarnation of the Northstars (with longtime drummer and cohort Keely Lane and bassist Kyle Westrick) features Duluth’s Dan Anderson on keys. Their 5 (now 6) albums have received rave reviews and high praise from the indie rock/americana/jangle-core crowd. With influences ranging from the Byrds, Neil Young, Petty, X, and Link Wray, the group’s original “cosmic folk” has cycled back to a more roots-rocking Americana sound in recent years.
The Northstars perform all around Minnesota and beyond and have been invited to share the stage with such notable acts as the Minus 5, the Jayhawks, Drivin’ and Cryin’, and Trampled By Turtles. Somewhat of a Minnesota music staple, Mattson is well known for his songwriting and outstanding showmanship as well as his work with literally thousands of artists at his Sparta Sound recording studio.
Chemistry Set celebrates their new album, “Red Black & Blue”
Chemistry Set is a power trio based in Northeast Minneapolis whose music rides the edge of Americana, alt-country and straight-up rock ‘n’ roll. The band gets inspiration from the hard knocks and uplifting moments of real life, along with the music of Neil Young, Son Volt, John Doe, Pete Yorn, Tom Petty, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and many others.
Edie Rae & The Blaze Kings
Edie Rae is one of twelve children haling from Spread Eagle, Wisconsin. After falling in love with the Twin Cities music scene, she relocated and never looked back. Over the years, she has sung in cover bands performing everything from bluegrass and blues to rock and soul.
Edie's musical journey evolved into songwriting and she performs her original tunes regularly with her band, Edie Rae & The Blaze Kings. The Blaze Kings are comprised of stellar Twin Cities musicians - Chad Mittag - guitar, David Hartman - bass, Clay Swanson - drums and Craig Teiken - other guitar. In addition to her original group, Edie also formed The de'Lindas - 8 piece Tribute to Linda Ronstadt band.
Dubbed “Mighty Mouse” by the late, great Captain Jack McDuff, Edie brings powerful vocal prowess and emotional movement to her performances and recordings. There is much more to come.
