Story Pirates takes stories written by kids and turns them into surreal and hilarious songs and sketches, performances loved by kids and adults alike. After launching their hit podcast produced by Gimlet Media in 2017, they will be appearing as part of the Spit Take Comedy Series in Minneapolis for a very special live performance, sharing some of their favorite stories, songs, and characters from their history.
It all started in a school auditorium in Harlem when a ragtag group of improv comedians put on an absurdist sketch comedy show inspired by stories written by kids. First receiving national attention in February 2008 when comedian Jon Stewart called the Story Pirates “crazy entertaining” on CNN, they have continued to receive widespread critical acclaim with the New York Times calling them "theatrical treasure," and many others dubbing it one of the best kids shows around.
A vocal proponent of arts education, Story Pirates partners with the non-profit Creative Minds Coalition to present life-changing literacy programs in hundreds of schools around the country.
