An evening of the finest contemporary bluegrass from Milwaukee and Minneapolis!
Wisconsin's Chicken Wire Empire and Minnesota's The High 48s are both nationally renowned for their traditional bluegrass chops, while bringing original songwriting, genre-bending covers, and high-energy stage presence to deliver uniquely modern performances of this classic American art form.
The High 48s are a contemporary bluegrass band who combine the soulful sounds of classic bluegrass with original song writing and a modern attitude true to the group's northeast Minneapolis roots. Winners of the prestigious RockyGrass bluegrass band competition in Lyons, Colorado, they keep one foot in tradition and the other in the world of music today. They have the rare ability to find an overlooked bluegrass classic in a song by M. Ward or The Clash and then throw down hard on a standard by Bill Monroe, delivering a high-energy performance that appeals to fans of bluegrass and rock and roll alike.
Chicken Wire Empire is an acclaimed progressive bluegrass band. The five members of the band have spent a lifetime honing their craft, with deep roots in bluegrass, jam band, classical, and other genres. On the first of 2019, CWE released their sophomore album, What Moves Mountains, locally-sourced, grown, recorded, mixed and mastered in their home turf of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. CWE brings the foot-stomping good times to audiences of all ages -- be sure to wear your dancing shoes!
