This Father’s Day, take a stroll down memory lane with a 35mm presentation of Verne Gagne’s 1974 independent film, The Wrestler and a special appearance by the AWA tag team, The High Flyers. In The Wrestler, the champion of "the League" Mike Bullard (Verne Gagne) is getting old and there is pressure to replace him with a younger wrestler. Promoter Frank Bass (Ed Asner) is feeling the pressure, and must decide whether to back Bullard, or the latest up-and-coming challenger, Billy Taylor (Billy Robinson).
Greg Gagne, the son of Verne Gagne, and Jim Brunzell were better known in the 70’s and 80’s as the tag team "The High Flyers”. Before the movie, enjoy stories of their days in the AWA, and their high-profile feuds with the likes of Bobby Duncum and Blackjack Lanza, Pat Patterson and Ray "The Crippler" Stevens, The East-West Connection (Adrian Adonis and Jesse "The Body" Ventura), and The Shieks (Ken Patera and Jerry Blackwell).
