Lizz Winstead is the comic we need right now!

Well, Donald Trump has been reelected, creepy men are storming our uterine walls, and Liz Cheney is going back to hating everything we stand for. But the good news is, comedian and Twin Cities native Lizz Winstead returns to The Parkway with her childless cat lady energy to respond to it all. Her latest show, Project 2024: This Super Weird Year In Review, is a not-to-be-missed comedic round-up of the year that was.

As sane people freak out about election results, slamming Xanax like fun-sized packs of M&M's wondering how they will go on, Lizz is bringing the laughs with posts like this on Instagram, and the responses say it all.

People are grateful for the laughs, not only to get through these surreal weeks post-election, but to motivate us all to prepare for what 2025 will bring.

“Being able to laugh in light of our fears is a must for survival,” Winstead says. And she has a proven track record of bringing levity in the darkest of times. “I have done shows and written comedy through 9/11, countless wars, the first Trump presidency, the fall of Roe AND Prince and Bowie dying. I will help you laugh through this too.”

You can count on it.

Lizz will hilariously sh*t-talk every fascist who got us here, look at the signs missed by Democrats that they were in trouble, and examine the media’s hot takes, all while tapping into our collective panic. It's the rage-laugh we need right now, especially at things we aren't supposed to say out-loud. There isn’t a WTF moment she won’t touch!

Lizz’s stand-up shows use a format like no other comedian working today. She’s not only a spot-on social critic, but she also brings The Daily Show vibes that she created to her own live shows by weaving video clips and graphics throughout the performance.

Her impact on comedy and activism is so profound that Governor Tim Walz and Lt Governor Peggy Flanagan proclaimed December 18th as Lizz Winstead Day to honor her contributions to Minnesota and the nation. Lizz says that if people have any doubt about whether they can laugh, this should be the endorsement they need:

“A guaranteed night out that will help you laugh about the national nightmare we are all experiencing is the exhale we all need,” says Lizz. “Plus, if anyone is on the fence, an endorsement from Governor Walz and Lt Governor Flanagan is a pretty good recommendation!”

As co-creator and former head writer of The Daily Show, and co-founder of Air America Radio, comedian Lizz Winstead helped change the very landscape of how people get their news. Winstead is not only a writer and creator, she was also a correspondent on The Daily Show and co-hosted Unfiltered, Air America Radio’s mid-morning show, with Chuck D and Rachel Maddow.

Known as one of the top political satirists in America, Winstead is recognized by all the major media outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, O Magazine, and as Entertainment Weekly’s 100 Most Creative People. Winstead’s first book, Lizz Free Or Die: Essays, released in 2012, garnered incredible reviews. Ms. Magazine says, “Lizz Winstead is a sharp-witted truth-teller, and ‘Lizz Free or Die’ will inspire anyone who has ever talked back to the television or wished they could come up with satire as insightful as ‘The Daily Show.’”

Lizz continues to do stand-up and make appearances on cable news, yet spends most of her time helming Abortion Access Front (AAF), an inclusive NYC-based reproductive rights organization she founded in 2015. AAF uses humor and outrage to expose anti-abortion hypocrisy and mobilizes people to take action in all 50 states. She also hosts the AAF weekly podcast, Feminist Buzzkills Live!, the perfect next step for Winstead, combining her activism and comedy. It is a must-listen; new episodes drip on Fridays wherever you get your podcasts.
