Whether exploring humor in the mundane, suspending disbelief in unfolding absurdities, or meandering down a waterway, these short films offer a fun and captivating viewing experience for people of all ages. Created by MotionArt director/choreographer Pam Gleason in collaboration with cinematographers Guy Wagner, Nate Gebhard, Adam Tapper, and the many multi-generational movers of MotionArt.

Pam Gleason ventured into filmmaking in 2018 as a way to capture her unconventional choreography in unusual locations and from distinctive perspectives. She’s been fortunate to work with talented filmmakers and movers who share her interest in offbeat comedy, musical timing, and nature’s abstract beauty. Ranging from exquisite to absurd, her films take the viewer on an idiosyncratic journey brought to life through movement and music.

Pam is the director and co-founder of MotionArt, an organization dedicated to bringing the art of modern dance and the joy of movement to people of all ages and abilities via classes, monthly improvs, live performances, and most recently, through film. She’s been creating, teaching, and performing for over 40 years – many of those years with the Hauser Dance Company – and has taught/performed/presented dance in numerous Twin Cities venues, several US cities, and internationally in Taiwan, Japan, and Russia. In 2022, her film Last Chance premiered in the Waterford International Film Festival in Ireland. Having created over 50 dances and choreographed several theater productions, her work has been supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Jerome Foundation, the Metropolitan Regional Arts Commission, and by much appreciated audience members.

Guy Wagner is a videographer, photographer, journalist, field producer, writer, and editor based in the Midwest/Hawaii.

He has worked with the Washington Post, NBC, The History Channel, Now This, Business Insider, University of St. Thomas, and AJ+. Recent documentary contributions include Selfie Nation by Alexandra Pelosi, and Yes Men’s Peace Pipeline.

Adam Tapper is a videographer and music guy who has worked on a variety of projects including music videos, character profiles, and wedding/event videos.

He enjoyed working on Currents with Pam and all of the other dancers and movers throughout this work. The choreographed pieces speak for themselves, and Adam attempted to let their movements showcase the themes with as simple camerawork and editing as possible.

Adam lives in Minneapolis with his guitar and is in need of a new blue t-shirt. As the looms keep spinning threads of red, white, and yellow, his search continues.

Nathan Gebhard (he/him) is an interdisciplinary performing artist & videographer based in New York with strong Minnesotan roots. He’s performed in national tours with TigerLion Arts (Nature: a Walking Play) and The Coldharts (The Unrepentant Necrophile). In Minneapolis, he’s performed with Live Action Set, Bedlam Theatre, and Spaceheater, among others. In New York, he’s co-produced a solo performing arts festival and won a Drama League Award with a short film presented by AFO Theater. He is currently at the helm of Night School, a cocktail & pizza parlor/brewery taproom in the heart of Athens, New York.
