A special night of New Orleans style brass & jazz, emceed by comedian Trish Cook.
Mama Digdown's Brass Band and the Southside Aces hit the stage for a night of classic New Orleans brass at the historic Parkway Theater in the heart of south Minneapolis. Stand-up comedian Trish Cook will be on-hand to emcee the evening.
Based in Madison, Wisconsin, for over two decades Mama Digdown's Brass Band has traveled the world spreading the gospel of brass band music. They have one foot firmly planted in the traditional brass sound of New Orleans and the other struts-its-stuff to the throw-down funk and soul of a younger generation. The street beat they play has earned them the reputation as one of the hottest and hardest hitting brass bands today. Mama Digdown's has played hundreds of shows around the globe and is equally at home in concert halls, festivals, clubs and parades.
The Southside Aces bring the old-school cool of traditional New Orleans jazz, fillingl the Parkway with the spirits of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, and King Oliver. Called "a true authentic New Orleans dance-hall style band" (New Orleans Traditional Jazz Quarterly), the band has released five albums: All Aboard!; Bucktown Bounce; A Fine Thing; a Christmas album, Santaphone; and their latest, Second Thursday.
