Silent films scored live every first Sunday by Al Church and Friends
Whether he backing on guitar, drums, or keyboards for local stalwarts such as Gaelynn Lea or Actual Wolf, or fronting his own popular 80’s infused solo act — Al Church has become a Swiss Army Knife of the local music scene. And now he’s bringing his talents back to The Parkway for the monthly series, Major Major Minor Minor (MMMM), a live cinematic soundtrack. Al’s signature sound will be accompanied by special guests, and your favorite visual gems, projected on the big screen.

This month Al & friends present the 1928 classic of the silent age, The Passion of Joan of Arc.
Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, this classic film of the silent age tells the story of the doomed but ultimately canonized 15th-century teenage warrior. On trial for claiming she'd spoken to God, Jeanne d'Arc (Renee Falconetti) is subjected to inhumane treatment and scare tactics at the hands of church court officials (Eugene Silvain, Jean d'Yd). Initially bullied into changing her story, Jeanne eventually opts for what she sees as the truth. Her punishment, a famously brutal execution, earns her perpetual martyrdom.
