Featuring Billy McLaughlin, Michael Monroe, and Peter Mayer!
A night of exceptional original compositions from three highly-awarded Minnesota artists whose careers span decades, musical genres, and across the globe. What can you expect this first Monday in March? Melody Melody Melody!
Emmy Award-winner and acoustic guitar vanguard Billy McLaughlin returns to The Parkway with more new compositions from the far reaches of the solo guitar galaxy. If you don't know Billy's music or what he's been through to keep making it, this show is a must-see. Acoustic guitar that defies gravity.
“…you might swear Billy McLaughlin is two of the greatest acoustic guitar players you’ve ever heard.”—Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Michael Monroe, “MN Acoustic Music Master,” (Star Tribune) performs original music on vocals, crystal/bamboo flutes, and plays Seaton Guitars from the Gunflint Trail, hand-crafted with 200-year-old wood from the bottom of Lake Superior.
Monroe’s award-winning instrumental soundtracks have been featured on PBS/CBC and the Toronto Enviro/New York Indie Film Fests in Chased By The Light; and was also awarded an Emmy for Soaring On Mended Wings.
Monroe returned to the Twin Cities following 28 years on the North Shore of Lake Superior near Grand Marais, 11 of which were “off the grid” where he recorded his first 12 albums using solar power. He presented Log Cabin Concerts in his cabin for 800 people a year for 17 years, which were featured on KSTP’s Jason Davis’ OnTheRoad, and in Lake Superior and Cabin Life Magazines.
“With heartfelt sincerity and a poetic touch in both the lyrics and music, Monroe explores subtle, quiet places that spark the imagination.”—Wintersong CD Review, City Pages
Minnesota's Peter Mayer has been singing and songwriting full-time for 25 years, performing in venues across the United States and beyond. He writes songs for a small planet--songs about interconnectedness and the human journey — songs about life on earth and the mysterious and wondrous fact of our existence. He also writes songs about dress hats, pumpkins and pajamas, and even love and freight trains just like a good folk musician should. His music has been performed by artists like Kathy Mattea, David Wilcox, Claudia Schmidt, Anne Hills, Priscilla Herdman, Darryl Purpose, Billy Jonas, and Ronny Cox, to name a few. His work has been included in song books, church hymnals, and folk radio playlists across the country. Peter has eleven albums to his credit, and has sold over 100,000 of them. He lives in Stillwater, Minnesota with his wife and two daughters.
