Local melody makers Consolation Champ and Matt Herzog Band co-headline a memorable evening of music you can bring your kids to!

The frontmen of both groups — John Richards and Matt Herzog — are also proud Minneapolis dads and will have an information table set up before and during the show for audience members to discover great youth opportunities in academics, athletics, and the arts.

Consolation Champ played their first show together in January of 2005 at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis. 375 performances in 37 states, 4 weddings, 11 children, and 6 dogs later, these balding buddies from Bloomington, Minnesota, continue to pursue good songs and good shows that move people.

Their latest album, Shorthand for a Long Walk, is meant to inspire reflection and creativity amid the demands of adulthood. Described by the Minnesota Star Tribune as “a collection of jangly dad pop” (the band takes this as a compliment), it’s C. Champ’s best attempt yet at making songs with universal subject matter that still manages to sound interesting.

Matt Herzog Band started performing soon after the release of the 2021 solo album Keep It Light. Matt has been in various local bands over the years, and the pandemic prompted him to focus on his own compositions around his twin daughters’ schedules.

The diverse styles of the bandmates all blend for a refreshing sound that features pure vocal harmonies, crafty guitar hooks, and melodic instrumental passages. Compelling lyrics complement the group’s technical range, drawing from classic and blues-rock influences.
