She’s always three steps ahead of the crowd. She has to be. She’s Quick Sand.
In these fast paced times, a lady can’t stop moving; you never know what you might encounter next in this funhouse world we’re living in. So Sandy has taken control. She’s bringing Minneapolis a mélange of musings, music and whimsy. "Never boring, J’adoring” is her motto.
Covering the waterfront of the outrageous, quotidian, and glamorous—Sandy fully realizes her land and brings it to you in vivid color and sound. Take a break with Sandy and don’t get stuck in the mundane. Quick Sand.
The Parkway is pleased to present the Twin Cities premiere of legendary entertainer Sandra Bernhard's latest production, Quick Sand. Previously performed to sold-out audiences in New York City in 2018, Time Out New York called Quick Sand, "The Divine Sandra's best work ... giving pop culture a big sloppy kiss, while simultaneously biting it on the lip." Her Minneapolis stop is the first on her exclusive upcoming 2019 tour.
Backed by the Sandyland Squad Band, Quick Sand is an intimate evening of cabaret music and comedic musings that promises a brief respite from the endless madness of the every more stressful news of the world. Expect smart talk, strong opinions and hilarious takes on the state of the world from one of the most prolific and outspoken voices around. Broadway World says of Quick Sand, "Bernhard takes no prisoners and pulls no punches. She will set the place afire with her white-hot intelligence. She is authentic, unapologetically pissed, heartbroken, and of course, hilarious."
Sandra Bernhard has been delighting audiences with her completely unique and raucous mix of cabaret, stand-up, rock-n-roll, and social commentary since she first appeared over three decades ago at LA's famed Comedy Store.
A pioneer of the one-woman show, Bernhard's trailblazing style has won her a loyal following and world-wide critical praise. She has been called "a performer of stunning originality" and a "living, breathing bonfire." Notable shows, which she has performed to sold-out audiences both on- and off-Broadway, include Without You I'm Nothing, I'm Still Here...Dammit, Everything Bad and Beautiful, Santa Monica Blvd...Coast to Coast, I Love Being Me Don't You, and most recently, Sandemonium. The New York Times calls her performances an "angst-driven, foul-mouthed poison-laced joyride that banks and careers frenetically through the worlds of fashion, celebrity, rock and religion." The Los Angeles Times raved that Bernhard "has musicality to die for, a voice that swoops from the bluesy basement to a top floor falsetto...."
An inimitable performer, actress, singer and author Sandra Bernhard is also the host of the hugely popular daily radio show, Sandyland, on SiriusXM's Radio Andy channel 102, headed up by Andy Cohen, for which she won a Gracie Award.
Her film credits include Martin Scorcese's The King of Comedy (for which she was awarded Best Supporting Actress by the National Society of Film Critics), Track 29, Hudson Hawk, Dinner Rush, and the live performance film Without You I'm Nothing. Television credits include 2 Broke Girls, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Broad City, Difficult People, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Will & Grace, The Sopranos, The Larry Sanders Show and Rosanne (on which she played network television's first openly gay character).
Bernhard also recently enjoyed a spectacular turn in Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story: Apocalypse and, in May 2019, will finish shooting the second season of Murphy's critically-acclaimed FX series, Pose, as the brassy but caring Nurse Judy Katz who works with H.I.V./AIDS patients.
